Over 100 years ago a Swiss orphan disembarked a ship on the south coast of England and accidentally boarded a train to Yorkshire. It doesn’t sound like the beginning of a grand story but it is. It’s the beginning of our story.
When the Duchess of Bedford started taking tea and sandwiches between lunch and dinner in the 1840s, she inadvertently started a wonderfully enduring tradition. Today, people flock to Bettys for our famous Afternoon Tea, even travelling from the other side of the world for a once-in-a-lifetime visit.
