Bettys Earl Grey is a delicate marriage of the finest black China teas and the fragrant oil of bergamot. It is said that during a visit to China in the early 19th century, Earl Grey – British Prime Minister from 1830 to 1834 – sent one of his diplomats to negotiate trade. When the diplomat saved the life of a Mandarin, his reward was a secret recipe: tea scented with oil from the citrus fruit, bergamot. The best way to keep tea fresh is in a traditional caddy.
