​Harry the Hedgehog: a ball of fun

Move over, robins. With your festive red feathers and chirpy characters, it’s no wonder you’ve enjoyed iconic status for many a Christmas. But this year at Bettys, we’ve decided it’s time for another much-loved resident of the British countryside to enjoy the spotlight.

Meet Harry the Hedgehog, an adorable fellow who has won the hearts of everyone at our Craft Bakery ever since our chief Christmas wizard Lesley Norris created him from a bespoke design. Just like his Enchanted Forest friends Sophie the Squirrel and Freddie the Fox, he’s made from our finest Swiss Grand Cru milk chocolate. With their famous attention to detail, our chocolatiers have given him a white chocolate tummy, a hand-piped friendly smile and a coat brushed for extra texture.

Now, if you’re wondering whether Harry shouldn’t be hibernating through the colder months like other hedgehogs do, we admit it – when we told him what he’d be missing out on, he just wouldn’t go to sleep. He even insisted that we made him a festive marzipan and sugar paste hat to get into the Christmas spirit.

Since then, he’s been keeping that tummy nice and full by snuffling around our Craft Bakery for leftover crumbs. But now that our slow-matured Christmas puddings are nearly ready to eat, we’re getting a little worried about what else might take his fancy. So he’s more than ready to join you for the big day.
