The place where the story of Bettys began nearly 100 years ago
Everything was wonderful: the food was gorgeous and the waitress was the best - she made us feel so at home. We’d definitely come back.
The story of Bettys began in 1919 when our founder, Frederick Belmont, opened his first Bettys Café Tea Room in the fashionable spa town of Harrogate
The combination of mouth-watering Swiss confectionery and Yorkshire warmth and hospitality in such an elegant setting proved irresistible. Bettys was an instant success. Nearly 100 years on, Bettys Harrogate remains as popular as ever. Providing a wonderful relaxed setting for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and evening meals, Bettys offers one of the best spots in town to enjoy the beauty of the town's surroundings.
From the swathes of crocuses which herald the spring, through to the autumn colours, the Stray is always a delight, and a window table at Bettys is the best place to enjoy it. You'll also discover our shop where you will be spoilt for choice with over 300 breads, cakes and chocolates, as well as 50 different teas and coffees, and a small delicatessen section with pastries, salads and soups.
Open from 8am to 9pm, you'll always find something on our menus to tempt you. Whether you are looking for a hearty English breakfast, a light bite for lunch or a three-course meal, your day out wouldn't be complete without a visit to Bettys.
We also offer a traditional afternoon tea for those looking for something extra special. A silver cake stand brimming with traditional sandwiches, delicious fancies and fresh scones, amounts to a quintessentially English treat you won't forget.
With a large Café Tea Rooms, a Café Bar, and a private dining area to choose from, Bettys is the perfect venue for a range of occasions.
The tables by the windows overlooking the Stray and colourful Montpellier gardens are always very popular, but in our downstairs Spindler Gallery you can enjoy views of Yorkshire of a more unusual kind.
Here you'll find a collection of exquisite Marquetry scenes of Yorkshire from the studio of Charles Spindler in Alsace, which was established in the late 1890s at the height of the Art Nouveau period.
Available all day, choose from our breakfast specialities, sandwiches/light dishes, a traditional afternoon tea or a three-course meal. Our unique selection of specialty teas, coffees and wines is available.
Bettys Harrogate can also provide a wonderful venue for every occasion, including business meetings, birthday parties, cocktail parties, afternoon teas and wedding receptions. With unrivalled views over Montpellier Gardens, The Imperial Suite can cater for up to 80 guests for breakfast, lunch or dinner or 100 guests for cocktail parties.
Or our Imperial Meeting Room is ideal for smaller private meetings or more intimate lunches/dinners for up to 20 guests, or cocktail parties up to 40 guests. Our menus combine flair and creativity with an emphasis on using only the freshest seasonal produce, bought locally. We can create bespoke menus, from canapés to four-course dinners, and Bettys classics such as Afternoon Tea.
Our Café Bar is reminiscent of the informal style of dining found in the cosmopolitan cities of Switzerland, Italy and France. Displayed in the counter where you place your order are a selection of classic pastries to accompany your morning coffee. You'll also find continental-style open sandwiches and filled rolls for the perfect lunchtime treat, and stunning handmade cakes, tortes and patisserie that will tempt you throughout the day.
The Montpellier Café Bar is also open in the evening, serving our full Autumn Menu, ideal with a cup of coffee, pot of tea or even a deliciously chilled white wine – the perfect way to end your busy day.
