Do you take reservations at Bettys?

We operate a queuing only system so unfortunately we cannot take reservations. However, the queue always moves quickly and is well managed by members of our café team, ensuring that you receive the first available table. If you require a chair while you wait, please let a member of our team know and they will be happy to help.

Although we don’t take reservations in our cafés, we do take reservations for Afternoon Tea. You can reserve a table for Afternoon Tea in the Imperial Room at Bettys Harrogate on Saturdays 1.00pm until 4.30pm and Sundays from 1.00pm until 4.00pm, or in the Belmont Room at Bettys York on Sundays from 2.00pm until 4.30pm. For further details, or to make a reservation, please contact Bettys Harrogate on 01423 814070 or Bettys York on 01904 659142.

Is there disabled access at your branches?

In Bettys Parliament Street Harrogate, RHS Garden Harlow Carr Harrogate and Northallerton, the café (or part of the café), shop and toilet are all at pavement level and so are easily accessible. In Bettys York and Ilkley we provide a small access ramp at the front door for wheelchair access.

What times are breakfast and afternoon tea served?

All items on our café menu are available all day, including breakfast specialties and Bettys Traditional Afternoon Tea. The Montpellier Café Bar at Harrogate however, does have separate menus, with breakfast specialities served from 8.00am until 11.00am, lunchtime and afternoon specialities served from 11.00am until 6.00pm and evening specialities served from 6.00pm until 9.00pm.

What does your afternoon tea consist of and how much is it?

Bettys Traditional Afternoon Tea is served all day at a cost of £17.95 per person. This includes a pot of Tea Room Blend tea and a choice of two of the following sandwiches: smoked salmon, roast ham, roast chicken or egg mayonnaise. Served with a sultana scone with strawberry preserve and Yorkshire clotted cream, and miniature cakes.

Do you sell gift vouchers?

We do sell Bettys Gift Vouchers and these can be purchased from any of our six branches, or from our Bettys ordering service. You can buy vouchers online or alternatively you can order by phone +44 (0)1423 814008. The line is open 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday.

The gift vouchers are available in £5 or £20 denominations and can be redeemed in our shops or cafés, from our Bettys ordering service or at Bettys Cookery School. Please note that change cannot be given if the purchase is worth less than the voucher.

We also have a Bettys Traditional Afternoon Tea Gift Voucher that currently costs £17.95 and allows the holder to enjoy Bettys Traditional Afternoon Tea for one, which consists of a pot of Tea Room Blend tea and a choice of two of the following sandwiches: smoked salmon, roast ham, roast chicken or egg mayonnaise. Served with a sultana scone with strawberry preserve and Yorkshire clotted cream and miniature cakes. This voucher can be redeemed in any of our six branches and has to be used within a year of the purchase date. This voucher cannot be redeemed against any other product. This voucher can also be purchased in any of our six shops, or by telephoning our Bettys customer services team on the number above.

Do you cater for a gluten free diet?

Our café main menu contains a range of items which should be suitable for a gluten free diet:

  • Roast Ham & Gruyere Omelette
  • Bacon & Raclette Rosti
  • Prawn Omelette
  • Pan-fried Salmon Salad
  • Bettys Caesar Salad (without croutons)

We can also offer certain sandwich fillings with any side salad:

  • Roast Chicken
  • Egg Mayonnaise & Cress
  • Roast Ham
  • Prawn & Avocado

There are other products which can be adapted to suit a gluten free diet, and your waiter/waitress should be able to tell you about these. For example, our Fried Fillet of Haddock, which comes with chipped potatoes, can be served grilled and without batter.

We also have a selection of cakes available in our shops and cafés that do not actively contain wheat flour as any part of their ingredients: Almond Macaroons, Florentines and Medicis.

However, all the products above in shop and café are made in either our kitchens or Craft Bakery where Wheat Flour is used extensively and therefore is present in the environment. For this reason, we can’t guarantee that any product is completely free from wheat flour. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask a member of our team. They will provide you with a product specification sheet highlighting all the ingredients used in our dishes and will be happy to talk you through your options.

Where can I buy your silver cake stands?

We don't actually sell our cake stands, and we have them specially made to our own design so they aren't available to buy anywhere else either. Unfortunately the company that does this for us does not sell to the general public.

However, there is a company we use for other items called Pinder in Sheffield who sell silverware and may be able to help.

How can I order from Bettys?

You can order products through this website. Alternatively you can order by telephone: +44 (0)1423 814008. The line is open 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday.

Why has your company adopted the spellings "Bettys and Taylors" instead of the correct "Betty's and Taylor's"?

Bettys lost its apostrophe around fifty years ago, so the exact explanation is lost in time. It's generally believed that the name was thought to look better without one - more distinctive, less messy - and as a brand name was not subject to the same rules as everyday words. Many trademarks and brand names eschew the rules for similar such reasons, even more so now thanks to the rise of the internet. Taylors has never had an apostrophe as the ‘s’ is a plural to reflect the fact that various family members were involved in the company.

Would you consider opening another branch outside of Yorkshire?

As a traditional family-run business, we pride ourselves on the craft products made at our Harrogate Bakery, which are delivered fresh to each branch on a daily basis. This means all our branches need to be within a reasonable distance of Harrogate. For this reason we are not looking to open another branch anywhere outside of Yorkshire. We aim to keep Bettys small in order to look out for every detail and maintain the best possible quality and consistency.
