How Many:
Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas, some 6,000 feet above sea level, is the town of Darjeeling, surrounded by some of the finest tea estates in the world. Darjeeling teas have a distinguished reputation as the 'champagne of teas' and are highly regarded because of their fine flavour. This is because the particular combination of high altitude, soil and climate, together with the type of tea bush, produce a very distinctive tea. Its taste is reminiscent of muscatel grapes, with an almost wine-like fruity acidity. Darjeelings also have a very 'dry' quality which tea tasters descrive as 'pungency'. At Bettys we like to serve Darjeeling for afternoon tea, with cakes and pastries. We think it's best served black, but it's perfectly acceptable to add a dash of milk too.
